Well, we’re getting there. Finally. π
I’ve tried thinking about how to describe my feelings about doing a new mix (not a ‘re-mix’ boy do I hate that term.) One thought was: ‘high school reunion’. Visiting people you haven’t in years to see how they’ve aged. But that’s not really a good metaphor.
Actually this is a lot more like plastic surgery. The kind of plastic surgery that’s supposed to be psychologically all wrong.
“Now Brenda, you’re just fine the way you are. Why do you feel a need to change anything? Can’t you learn to love yourself the way you are?”
Yeah, right. The problem with that analogy is that, as I’ve said, I never planned on Positive being heard by the general public. It just took off a bit. But then, it stalled. It just wasn’t up to par recording-wise and people hear it—even if they can’t articulate that. People feel it’s not ‘finished’ sounding.
Moving back to the plastic surgery metaphor, so you decide to do it. Now you have to decide what to do. And that’s rough. I’m thinking of my sister back in her teenage years; staring at the bathroom mirror for hours. Analyzing. Every. Zit. Over. And. Over. And so I shake off that image and then another image floats into view as I consider actually trying to correct any of these myriad blemishes. Oh, here comes that nice plastic surgeon from ‘Brazil’ (Just me and my little knife! Snip snip – slice slice… can you believe it?)
So I’ve spent a lot of time deciding what to nip. And what to tuck. And it hurts. The actual ‘fixing’ should be a lot easier now that I’ve got most of the vomiting under control.
Now That’s Salesmanship, Pal!
And on that cheery note, let me tell you some of the wonders in store for the re-release:
There will be new versions of two songs. Won’t say which two yet, but one of them is like, the most requested song I get. Eh-verrr.
There will be also be a teaser solo song arrangement. I’ve never gotten round to documenting any of the solo concerts—something that is on my to-do list for sure—so this is an opening salvo in that direction. If you’ve ever wondered how an ‘unplugged’ JCHMusic concert sounds, well, all wishes should be so easily granted. (By the way, the solo version will be in addition to the standard version. I hate re-releases where they substitute something like this when I expected the ‘real’ song.) Of course, this implies that new gigs are in the offing. Stay tuned.
And, as previously discussed, there will be an upgrade discount for all previous owners of Positive. And there there will also be a discount for purchasers of any previous JCHMusic release. In fact, I’m probably going to do a ‘Catalog For A Lifetime’ promo, where you’ll be able to pick up all releases for one low price and get all future releases for just the price of shipping. I said stay tuned.
Finally, there will be new videos. And yes, they will be better than the previous two. π Yes, this is actually going to be something vaguely resembling a marketing campaign to sell some stuff. (Just when people have totally stopped buying CDs. Way to go, JCH! π )
