The Twitter Thing

Well, it’s come to this:

Follow me! Follow me!

Learn what I had for lunch.

What I’m doing.

What I’m saying. About what I’m saying. To someone else entirely.

You’re like a fly on the wall. Except that the person I’m talking with sees me type, Type, TYPING. Instead of paying attention to what they’re saying. No problem. She’s texting her boyfriend while I do this. AND WE’RE HAVING A CONVERSATION!

I love the multi-tasking world.

But this way, those who care can get updates on shows and various doings without having to check into the web site. So I guess that’s handy. If you find anything worth ‘tweeting’ (twitting? twatting?) about, please let me know as my phone does -not- ‘twit’ and I follow no one but the Lord, baby.

The Lesson Of Michael?

After I heard about Michael, I started thinking about this guy ‘Bev’ I worked for years ago who helped organise The Crossroads Festival. For those not ‘down’, this is a very famous get together for Transvestites and Transsexuals. People come from all over the country for the a totally swank party where the only rule is: Ya Gotta Look Fabulous.

As I said, I worked for the festival. They would put a call out for musicians to play in a big band at their big Gala Ball and it was a gig that was coveted by almost everyone in the biz… In addition to being paid an UNFUCKIN’ BELIEVABLE amount of money for a 4 hr. job of really excellent charts, we were all fed scrumptously and generally had a total blast.

The common thing about all these gals (?) in their Halston gowns was that all of them wish they were someone or something other than what they were. And this ball was a chance for them, if only once a […]

In The 24th Century Cool People Will Still Wear Levi’s

…as opposed to some synthe-knit. (To go with the synthe-hol, of course.)

I just watched the new Star Trek movie. And note that the ‘rebel’ James T. Kirk defines his rebelness by:

a) driving an old Corvette

b) listening to something that sounds like 1992 Rage Against The Machine on something that looks a lot like a ‘car stereo’

c) Wears Levi’s jeans.

I pray  to God that the 24th century is not really like that. I hope like heck that the future has something new and different in store. But I worry that we are actually encouraging our own demise by cultivating a culture that recycles when it should be burying and making new things.

Back in my day, a ‘rebel’ rejected the past. Kids wore Levi’s specifically because it pissed off the parents. And the parents listened to Glenn Miller. Nowadays, there is this unholy amalgam of generations. The parents still don’t understand the kids, but the problem is, we think we do because we all can share the same icons and totems. We […]
