I’ve read a couple of articles on this ‘whorl shark’ and paleontologists insist it’s for real. But one sees so many ‘photoshopped’ piccies these days I automatically assumed it was a joke. And I still think so.
‘Common sense’ (whatever that is) tells me that this is a fabulous case of wrong interpretation. It seems to me that Mother Nature doesn’t do stuff like this unless there’s a pretty good reason and I’m having a very tough time understanding how the proposed appendage in any way helps the fish obtain or process food.
If anyone has any (educated) idea as to how one gets from the fossil to this rendering I would be interested to hear about it.
